Fossil Hunting

Fossils from the Cretaceous Period are very abundant in Texas. Once covered by an expanded Gulf of Mexico, San Antonio is filled with fossils of both vertebrates and invertebrates. Since most of the creeks that run in and around the city are usually dry, they provide perfect hunting grounds for fossils. Fortunately for us the park near our home provides access to a dry creek. Our collection of fossils expands with each outing. Rob is the lead fossil hunter, taking photos and keeping a watchful eye for snakes while the kids hike through the creek.

It turns out Tony has a very good eye for spotting fossils; he found another great specimen this past week. You can see more photos by visiting Rob's Flickr page.
